ThanksGiving
Day - November 23, 2017
|
|
Thanksgiving
day is celebrated around the world with great enthusiasm.
Countries like America, Greece, China and Egypt and
the rest of the countries celebrate Thanksgiving Day.
Thanksgiving is related to Harvest
Festival that had long been a traditional
holiday in much of Europe.
It is celebrated in a variety of ways around the world.
Although the Thanksgiving celebrations
differ, the spirit of love and joy in celebrating it
around the world remains the same. The people celebrate
Thanks giving Day each year as a day to thank God for
the reward of the crops and blessings received during
the year.
Thanks giving Day is also called turkey
day, because turkey
is the most common main dish of a Thanks giving dinner. |

In
the United States, Thanksgiving Day is
celebrated on the fourth
Thursday in November.
-
In
Canada, where the harvest generally ends
earlier in the year, Thanks giving holiday
is celebrated on the second Monday, which
is also observed as Columbus
Day.
It's the time
of family gatherings
and holiday meals
and joyous reunions. And also the time for turkeys
stuffing and pumpkin pie, strawberry-rhubarb
pie, pecan pie, Indian corn, holiday parades,
giant balloons, and holiday pictures
for the kids to print and color, sending tasty
holiday recipes
and e-greeting cards
to friends and relatives.
Thanks giving
is almost entirely celebrated at home, unlike
the New Year or Christmas, which has lot of
fireworks, parties, caroling, etc. Major Celebrations
are Parades, Spending
Time with Family, Eating Large Dinners and
participating in Football (Canada and
USA)
Thanksgiving is also a time for serious
religious thinking, church services, and prayer.
All family members visit churches and offer
thanks prayers in praise of God. The children
sing and dance and the adults travel to meet
their distant relatives and friends. The kids
love being a part of the celebrations that
are accompanied with delicious food, games
and other activities of their interest. This
makes for the most enticing part of the Thanksgiving
celebrations.
In Great Britain, Thanksgiving is also known
as Harvest festival. This tradition was taken
to North America by early settlers.

The
history of Thanks giving
begins with the first English settlers
in the northeastern part, of the United
States. These settlers were called pilgrims.
On Dec. 4, 1619, a group of 38 English
settlers arrived at Berkeley
Plantation (now Charles
City) The First Thanksgiving in
New England was celebrated in Plymouth
less than a year after the Plymouth colonists
had settled in America.

|
The first dreadful winter in Massachusetts had
killed about half the members of the colony.
But new hope arose in the summer of 1621. The
history of Thanksgiving is basically the story
of the pilgrims and their thankful community
feast at Plymouth Massachusetts.
The first American Thanksgiving was celebrated
in 1621, to commemorate the harvest reaped by
the Plymouth colony and Thanksgiving days were
celebrated throughout the colonies after all
harvests. Initially, Thanksgiving observance
was entirely religious and did not involve feasting.
Thanksgiving Day in Canada
is celebrated in the same way as in the US.
It was formerly celebrated on the last Monday
of October and in 1957, the government proclaimed
the second Monday in October to be the holiday.
