| Miladi
Sharif or Nabi-Dinam, is
the Birthday celebration of Prophet
Mohammedand and it is a major Muslim festival
in Kerala and allover the world.
Prophet Mohammedand was born on Monday, the 21st
April of 571 AD at Mecca, in Arabia. It was the
twelfth day of Rabi-ul-Awwal, the third month of the
Muslim year. His death anniversary also falls on the
same day of Rabi-ul-Awwal(Prophet Mohammedand was died
on 8th June 633 at the age of 62.)
In 2006 the Miladi Sharif or Nabi-Dinam celebration
falls in the month of April 11th. The most important
event of the festival is the recital of 'Moulood',
a short biography of the Prophet written both in verse
and prose in Arabic language. Also night lectures by
learned men, focusing on the life and noble deeds of
the Prophet, deliver sermons and nightlong discourses
are conducted by Muslim Ulemas on various aspects of
the life of the Prophet are arranged during the first
twelve days of the month. |

In
Kerala, the colorful processions
are also held through the towns reciting Thakbir
and finally assemble on some public place where
meetings are held. Well-known speakers, who
deal with the various aspects of the Prophet’s
life, address these public gatherings. Such
meetings are often attended largely by non-Muslims
also. |
