FLOWER GARDEN

A flower garden is not merely a collection of plants. It is the skillful arrangement of plants.

The gardener should be fully familiar with the habits of growth of several ornamental plants. They should be allotted the right places, in the garden; design based on their growth features to give the maximum pleasing effect. The building and the garden should merge into each other.

The main components of a garden are lawns, flowering trees, shrubs and shrubberies, climbers and creepers, flower beds, ornamental hedges, edger, drivers, roads, walk and paths.

1. Lawn : usually this is placed in front of the house. Blue grass, dactyl on Napier grass.

2. Trees: Trees are generally planted on the confines or boundaries of the garden or along the main roads.

3. Shrubs and shrubberies: Shrub borders of informal (allowed to grow without trimming) (trimmed to a particular height) can border the main walls and paths. (Croton, Aratia, Bougainvillea) can make attractive tub plants or pot plants for indoor and outdoor decorations.

4. Climbers and creepers: Light spreading climbers (Antigo on) can be grown on trellises or coir mesh to form effective screens to hide potting shed, kitchen, garden or to enclose the verandah.

5. Flower beds and borders: Flowering annual and herbaceous perennials can be grown in beds and borders.
(Dianthus, Ageratum, Aster, Balsam, Cosmos, Zinnia, Verbena)

6. Ornamental hedges : Ornamental internal hedges can also be planted inside the garden with attractive foliage or flowering shrubs (Law Sonia, Casuarinas, Tamorix).
